Ribbon-cutting Celebrating the Munsey Elementary School Neighborhood Walkway Improvements

Improvements to enhance safe routes to nearby school

Join Kern County Public Works, elected officials, and community members as we celebrate the completion of the Munsey Elementary School Neighborhood Walkway Improvements.

The Munsey Elementary School neighborhood walkway improvements will provide students and residents with safe access to and from school and encourage active transportation, such as walking and biking.

The improvements were split into two separate projects with one taking place west of the school from Stine Road to Cherokee Drive on Brave Avenue and the second taking place on the east side from South Real Road to Mona Way.

Approximately 200 feet of concrete was reconstructed per walkway, bollards were put in place to secure entrances, and overhanging trees and brush were cleared to increase ease of access. These upgrades were the latest improvements Kern County Public Works completed with the goal to enhance safe routes to schools throughout the County.

In total, the project cost approximately $104,107, was funded through the Senate Bill (SB) 1 Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account (RMRA), and took one month to complete, with the completion date of April 24, 2024.
